Musical Chess - Grace Slick and White Rabbit

Grace Slick (left) and Janis Joplin (1967):

Grace Slick is alleged to have written the song "White Rabbit" in one hour. The song was released on Jefferson Airplane's album Surrealistic Pillow (1967). Grace's song lyrics suggest the similarities between the effects of hallucinogenic drugs (ie LSD and Magic Mushrooms) and the imagery in the works of Lewis Carroll (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, 1865; Through the Looking-Glass, 1871).

From a chess perspective, the song mentions chess in the third verse. Also, the entire group in Jefferson Airplane, including Grace Slick, are reported to be chess players (one link of many).

White Rabbit (Grace Slick) Lyrics:

One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall

And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call
Recall Alice
When she was just small

When men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know

When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said:
Feed your head
